A Story About My Butt Washer + How My Husband Has Been A Good Influence

When I first met Pete, he gave me a ride home in his 1994 forest green Toyota pickup truck.

On our third date he said, “I know you’re a keeper because you are ok with my truck.”

I said, “Who wouldn’t be ok with this?.”

Mind you I met him during the winter in LA. By the time June rolled around, I discovered there was no A/C.

Pete keeps things for a loooong time.

He also has a leather laptop bag that I kid you not is 17 years old. Anytime something on the bag breaks he brings it to a luggage repair shop. He also consistently conditions the bag with leather conditioner. Imagine Pete sitting there, dabbing conditioner onto a little cloth, and swirling it onto his bag…

I can’t make this stuff up.

While I find it borderline ridiculous (good lord, just buy a new bag!), it’s a really good quality. He takes care of his things and unless there is a practical reason to get rid of it, he’ll keep using it.

Pete and his beloved leather bag.

We moved into a new home recently. In our old condo was a toilet hose.

Yes, out of all things I’m going to tell you guys about my butt washer.

By the way, in almost every other country, rinsing your butt after you go to the bathroom is normal. I wonder why more people don’t do it in America. If you had something disgusting on your hand, would you wipe it clean with a piece of toilet paper and then be like, “Ok! It’s clean!”?

Rinse that damn thing.

Anyway, I took the metal toilet hose off our old toilet. Actually a handyman took it off, and then he looked at me and said, “What do you want me to do with it?.” I looked at it and saw rust/hard-water damage on most of it. I gave a grossed out look and said throw it away.

Then I said, “Wait.”

I looked closer and saw that it could be easily cleaned.

I put on gloves, threw the hose in the sink and scrubbed it with soap. It took 2 minutes.

Shiny and literally GOOD AS NEW. No need to buy a toilet hose for our new house!

If you tend to throw things away or buy things over and over and over again, maybe next time take a look and really see if you can restore it. Good for the environment and good for your wallet.

Take good care of your things, like Pete. ๐Ÿ™‚
